Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars
The Perth Scorchers will go into this match as favourite after finishing the regular season on top of the BBL ladder. Their form has tapered off a bit in recent weeks after a very impressive start to the season where they won 3 of their first 4 matches, but a commanding win over the Hurricanes last time has them going into the finals series in good form.
The return to form of Shaun Marsh in their last match will come as a huge plus as well. The star left-hander top scored with 57 off 34 deliveries against the Hurricanes and an in form Marsh adds a lot to the Scorchers line up.
The Melbourne Stars have fallen into the finals due to their superior net run rate after they dropped their last 2 matches of the season in disappointing style. The Stars have had big troubles this year towards the tail end of the innings with both bat and ball. Despite getting off to good starts their middle order has let them down and struggled with the bat, letting teams get on top of them in the final 5 overs.
Their death bowlers have also struggled to contain teams in the final few overs. The return of James Faulkner will hopefully help with that, but the final 5 overs of each innings will likely decide the result of this match up.
Last time they met it was the Stars comfortably defeating the Scorchers by 7 wickets here at the WACA. The Scorchers could only put on 134 with the ball which never looked like being enough as the Stars chased it down with 3 overs to spare.
With the runs on the board in the recent H2H match up and their top order in brilliant form with Kevin Pietersen averaging 44 and Rob Quiney dynamic at the top of the order scoring at least 31 in 4 of his past 5 matches the Stars look a decent bet to cause the upset tonight and progress to the Final. Their middle order could get bolstered a bit as well with players returning from international duties.
