Tancred Stakes Preview

It looks a two horse race in the Tancred Stakes with Gailo Chop and Almandin dominating betting at the top of the market. Gailo Chop comes into this race in the best form of his career having won three of his four starts this prep (finishing 2nd in the Australian Cup at his only other run) including a dominant three length win in the G1 Ranvet Stakes at his last start. This is another race that looks to lack any sort of pressure up front for him as well so he should get a soft run in the lead and be able to kick strongly in the straight again. He finished 7th in his only previous attempt over this trip so that could be the query if there is one.

The 2016 Melbourne Cup winner Almandin is the logical danger. His first up run was sensational under 60kg when he clocked one of the fastest run home times of the day and then last start he got held up horribly for a run in the G1 Australian Cup and never got out of a pocket. If he got out last time he would have won, but he still managed to finish within a length of Gailo Chop on that day despite the bad luck. The step up to 2400m is a big plus and if he gets even luck in running will be extremely hard to hold out.

SIngle Gaze has to go in as the next pick. She has been a model of consistency at G1 level for some time without being able to break through for a win. Expect another G1 placing for her today.

Vinery Stud Stakes Preview

The fillies will line up in a wide open Vinery Stud Stakes and one at a price that looks ready to explode at the 2000m is the Hayes & Dabernig filly Rimraam. After kicking off this prep with a win in the Vanity where she defeated both Bring Me Roses and Aloisia who will start in the market here. She then ran third in the G1 Surround Stakes going down by less than a length to the very promising filly Shoals. Last time she was just out dashed late by Luvaluva and battled into 4th position, but stepping up to the 2000m now looks ideal. She ran a close up 3rd in the Wakeful over this trip in the spring and after holding her form through this prep the $18 odds look massive overs and in an open race she looks like an Each Way special.

Another at a big price that is worth including in all multiples is All Too Soon who put together back to back wins this prep before taking on the older horses at her latest start when she was forced to get too far out of her ground but still powered home strongly through the line to finish runner up.

No one missed the luckless run of Alizee in the Coolmore last time. After settling last she was rockerting along the inside but just ran out of all room late and had to be steadied off heels. Before that she was finding the line very strongly in both the Light Fingers and the Surround and she looks like she will thrive with the step up to 2000m.

It’s hard to make a case for last springs boom filly Aloisia on her form this prep. She was just average first up and then finished well down the track last time in the Guineas. Even though she did cop a decent bump in the straight in the Guineas she was at the back when it happened and it's debatable how much of an effect it ended up happening. Her trial since was only average again.
