Doncaster Mile Preview

After running a super race behind the wonder mare Winx last time HAPPY CLAPPER has to go on top for the Doncaster. He beat home Kementari by almost a length in that race and has to give up an extra 2.5kg today but he looked to be holding the 3yo down the straight and i'm not sure that 2.5kg would have made the difference.

Through the same race KEMENTARI does have to go in for 2nd though. He best the 3yos dominantly in all three runs this prep before stepping up to to open grade WFA last time and running very well finishing just 1.6L behind Winx and he does drop 4.5kg for that run.

Even though he is a bit of a head case you just have to throw TOSEN STARDOM into the mix at huge odds now. He dropped out poorly after a beautiful run last time but before that ran very well in the G1 Futurity. We have seen him turn around his form before too during the spring when he flopped as favourite in the Cantala before coming out and thrashing his rivals in the Mackinnon a week later.

Doncaster Mile Tips

1 - Happy Clapper
2 - Kementari
3 - Tosen Stardom

Australian Derby Preview

Back on to a firmer track today expect a huge improvement from the VRC Derby winner ACE HIGH. After returning with two good closing runs in both the Expressway and Hobartville (Behind Kementari) he hasn't had a lot of luck his past couple getting caught wide. Last start in the Rosehill Guineas he had a particularly tough run being caught wide and having to work far too hard in ground ground that doesn't suit him. Back to a firm track, from a good barrier and out to 2400m are all factors that should see him improve greatly and be very hard to beat.

The run of FURORE in the Rosehill Guineas was equally good looking ahead to the Derby. After settling just off the speed he was making a strong run between horses but got almost knocked over and then squeezed up afterwards but he still kept on closing strong through the line. He got 3rd on protest that day and looks like one that will really appreciate the 2400m.

Coming through the same race at huge odds was TANGLED who needs to be included in exotics once again at a price. He settled last of of 18 before charging through along the inside in the straight to finish 2nd behind a good horse. He is one who started in the market for the Victoria Derby off the back of very good 2nd place finishes in the Vase and Spring Champion behind Cliff's Edge and Ace High. He then had no luck in the run through the Derby when pushed wide and checked in the straight.

Australian Derby Tips

1 - Ace High
2 - Furore
3 - Tangled

Sires Produce Stakes Preview

After a fast finishing 2nd in the Golden Slipper the filly OOHOOD has to go on top here. She is still a maiden but looks to be crying out for the 1400m with late closing runs in all of her races to date.

Hardest to beat will likely be LONG LEAF who had to race back and wide in the Golden Slipper after drawing the car park but he still ran home very strongly with the blinkers on for the first time. His only poor run through his career came in the Blue Diamond when he was checked badly on the turn and dropped out.

If you are looking for one at a price to include then SEBERATE maps nicely for a race like this. He finished 4th in the Blue Diamond Prelude behind Written By when he settled last in the running and was making good ground inside the final furlong to suggest he would want further. Then last start in the VRC Sires he sat outside the lead and was only grabbed late by Not A Single Cent after fighting on all the way up the straight.

Sires Produce Tips

1 - Oohood
2 - Long Leaf
3 - Seberate

TJ Smith Stakes Preview

REDZEL is the clear star of Australian sprinting right now and just has to go on top. He suffered his first loss for almost a year when Redkirk Warrior grabbed him right on the line in the Lightning Stakes but he then bounced back strongly taking out the Challenge Stakes at Randwick in track record time.

With already two 2nds to her name in this race ENGLISH should be around the mark yet again. She rocketed home from the back in the Galaxy last start running the fastest last 600m with the blinkers applied for the first time.

A huge roughie at cricket score odds that could be worth including in the tail end of exotics is THE MISSILE. The 3yo settled a long way off them last in the Galaxy last start but ran on super to finish within 3L of the winner in the end. Only English ran faster closing sectionals on that occasion.

TJ Smith Stakes Tips

1 - Redzel
2 - English
3 - In Her Time
